Why do emails get spammed

Emails are a great sales tool. But, only if it did not fall under the spam filter. Let "s understand the reasons for getting into spam. First you need to understand what is spam - (eng. Spam) mass email-sending to people who have not expressed the desire to receive it. Accordingly, the main reason for getting into the spam folder is the use of various email parsers, purchased databases, mailing list exchanges and so on. This can lead to a complete blocking of email distribution or getting into the DNSBL (black lists) of the sender "s IP address, we recommend checking the IP address on the DNSBL (spam lists )

But, there are cases where the mailing is legitimate, and its recipients are interested in it, but all the letters exactly fall into the spam folder, such reasons are technical and have many factors. Mail services such as Gmail.com, Yandex, Mail.ru and others will send the mailing to spam or reject it altogether. Often this is not a valid DKIM, DMARC, MX, and SPF policy setting or SMTP server. Spam filters can be superimposed, then even after correcting errors, it will be extremely difficult and better to deliver the mailing to the inbox, to check the letter for spam and the correctness of all parameters before the mailing starts. By the way, we have diagnosing SMTP server for errors

Let "s go in order, to begin with, which in the content of the letter affects spam hit , and which should be avoided in email newsletters:

  1. Letter subject in capital letters
  2. In the body and in the letter header there are side words (spam words):
Advertising and promotions prize, discount, bonus, buy, join millions, urgent offer, you won’t believe your eyes, click, profit, savings , chance, success, click here, winnings, limited offer 100% guarantee, not spam, free of charge, order, sale, cheap, winner, why pay more, here, guaranteed, without deception, confidentially, Urgency call now, only now, instantly The definitions are successful, effective, amazing, best, the most, terrific
  3. Content in the letter of inappropriate content
    • Javascript
    • Iframe
  4. Frequent punctuation in title
  5. Abbreviated URLs
    • Public Redirect Services
    • Link shortening services
  6. No contact information at the end of the letter.
  7. A large number of non-existent recipients (more than 2.5%)
  8. You send letters more than 5 times a week
  9. You have a picture instead of text
  10. Media content exceeds text
  11. Change the sender’s address frequently
  12. One time sender address
  13. Recipients are the first to see your newsletter
  14. Frequent spam complaints from recipients (more than 0.25%)

Now we understand the technical reasons for getting into spam :

  • DKIM (Sender ID) is configured incorrectly
  • Incorrect Sender Policy Infrastructure Record (SPF)
  • The presence of an IP address in the DNSBL (blacklists).
  • DMARC policy prohibits the use of third-party mailing services
  • Bad reputation of the IP address of the SMTP server
  • The letter contains bad html-code
  • Overlay spam filters on the sender and SMTP server
  • No MX records on the sender’s domain
  • The rDNS does not match the host (domain) of the SMTP server.

We figured out the main reasons for getting into spam, as you can see, there are many of them and often it takes a lot of time. We applied all our experience and highlighted the most effective tests, now there are about 30 of them, including content scanning.
